Whether you're out riding on the road, off-roading on a trail, commuting on your e-bike, travelling, at events or racing, we offer flexible and personalised cover to suit you.

Choose from 3 levels of cover including; Bicycle, Bicycle + Cyclist or Cyclist insurance cover.

What our cycling insurance covers

  • We will cover your bicycle on a repair or replacement cost basis for cycling crash, accidental damage to your bike, and

    malicious damage if the damage is caused by a sudden, unforeseen, specific incident that happens during the period of

    insurance and is entirely outside of your control.

  • If your bike is stolen, we will cover your bicycle on a replacement cost basis if It is stolen from your home or away from

    your home, provided you have complied with the security conditions.

  • We will cover your bicycle when transported on a bicycle rack as long as it is secured to a properly fixed bicycle rack via

    the lockable security provision of the bicycle rack, or locked through the bicycle frame, and all quick-release wheels to a

    properly fixed bicycle rack with an approved lock.

  • Your cycling accessories are covered, provided they are damaged or stolen in the same covered loss as your bicycle,

    which forms part of a valid claim. Cycling accessories include panniers, GPS computers, saddle bags, mudguards, and

    lights, excluding mobile or smartphones. You are also welcome to add your spare wheels, helmet, cycling clothing and

    bike lock to your accessories.

  • We will reimburse you up to 500 pounds for the cost of hiring an equivalent bicycle or the reasonable use of public transport while you are awaiting the repair or replacement of your bicycle, which arises from a valid claim.

  • If you purchased the bicycle new, we will repair or replace it on a new-for-old basis, meaning the cost of a comparable new replacement without any depreciation or market value applied.

  • We will cover legal liability up to 2 million pounds arising from third-party death, accidental bodily injury, loss of property or property damage due to an accident while you are riding a bicycle and are found legally liable. This cover includes the legal cost and expenses of defending a claim made against you.

Optional comprehensive extras

  • If your cycling accessories are more than 250 pounds, you can specify the exact replacement amount, and it will be covered, provided they are damaged or stolen in the same covered loss as your bicycle, which forms part of a valid claim.

  • Racing cover
    We will cover your insured items while participating in a race or organised event.

    Events cover
    We will provide cover up to 500 pounds for reimbursement of your organised event entry fee for any cycling race or organised event you have entered and cannot compete in due to physical injuries you have sustained due to an incident involving a covered loss to your bicycle.

    Event secure zone
    We will provide cover for your insured items for up to 24 hours against theft while kept in the event secure zone of a cycling event, competitive triathlon, biathlon, or similar organised event where you, as the participant, store your insured Items whilst transitioning between disciplines or event stages. Your bicycle is not required to be locked while in the event secure zone.

  • Cover for your bicycle whilst travelling abroad for up to 365 days per annum, limited to 90 consecutive days per journey, during the period of insurance.

  • Cover for your additional wheelset, for example, a pair of spare or racing wheels.

  • We will provide cover for death, injury or illness if you are riding a bicycle and you are killed, injured or become ill as a result of an accident. Additionally, we will cover your emergency medical care, optical, dental and physiotherapy treatments up to the benefit limit of 1000 pounds.

Is Cyclist Cover Worth It?

For only £1.25 per month, you will receive up to £2,000,000 in public liability coverage for claims made against you for damages or injuries while cycling.  For only an additional £1.25 per month you will receive support with your medical bills, physiotherapy, dental and optical care if you are injured in a cycling accident.

It’s not just for roadies in lycra!  We cover many types of riders depending on whether you are a casual cyclist cycling for pleasure at the weekend, commuting by bike daily, travel and adventure cyclists or for competitive cyclists who regularly compete in cycling races and events at home or abroad.

Our bicycle insurance covers most types of bikes whether you’re commuting to work on an e-bike, pushing the limits on your mountain bike or gravel bike, taking the kids and shopping around town on your cargo bike or out for weekend ride on your road bike.

  • GCN cycling insurance covers electric ‘pedal assist’ bikes with up to 250 watts of max motor output and a top speed of 15.5 miles an hour.

    The motor's power output, the manufacturer and the battery’s voltage or maximum bike speed must be displayed. Your e-bike must have been specifically manufactured as an e-bike, not a retrofitted road or mountain bike.

  • When GCN cycling insurance covers your bicycle, an accident with an uninsured driver will not negatively impact your claim outcome. As long as your insurance premiums are up to date and your claim is valid, the damage to your bicycle will be repaired or replaced even though the driver was uninsured.

  • The approved lock you need will vary depending on the insured value of the bike: Bikes insured for less than £1,000 require a Sold Secure Silver-rated lock. Bikes insured for £1,000 or more require a Sold Secure Gold-rated lock.

  • Yes, provided they reside at your home permanently and are older than 16. It can be your child, stepchild, parent, stepparent, spouse, sibling, life partner, or civil partner, and includes adoptive relationships.

  • A new bicycle must be insured for the amount it would cost to replace it today. If the bicycle is second-hand, insure it for its current market value. Please contact one of the cycling team members via email, phone or Chats for more assistance.

  • Sold Secure is a company that rates locks based on their performance under rigorous security tests. For the latest

  • All GCN cycling insurance policies can be paid monthly with no additional costs. Your policy will renew automatically after 12 months. You will be notified of the renewal if you would like to make changes to your policy.

    Additionally, you will have a further 14-day cooling-off period to make changes, with no penalties charged at any stage of your policy period.

  • Yes, cycling accessories cover is included in your policy. If you need more than the standard cover limit of £250, let us know and we will add additional accessories for you.

    Accessories include panniers, a GPS, racing wheels, helmets, clothing and lights with a maximum cover limit of £5,000.

  • Yes. There is no need to specify your custom parts. You can include your custom parts or wheelsets in your bicycle sum insured. If you need assistance with adding an extra wheelset give the cycling team a call or email us.

  • No. Your cycling accessories are only covered when they are used with the insured bicycle listed on your policy.

  • If you haven't made a claim, you can cancel your policy within 14 days of the start or renewal date. The premiums paid for the policy will be refunded with no penalties. Even after the cancellation period, you can cancel your policy with no penalties charged.

  • Yes, simply add more of your own bikes and your family’s bikes to the same policy. As long as the bikes are owned by you, your partner, your child or parent and you all live at the same address, then you can save the following:
