What Do You Get with GCN Insurance?

We share your passion for cycling. We know what being out on your bike means to you.

Whether you're out riding on the road, off-roading on a trail, commuting on your e-bike, traveling, at events or racing, we offer flexible and personalized coverage to suit you.

WHAT OUR BICYCLE INSURANCE COVERS

  • We will cover your bicycle on a repair or replacement cost basis for a cycling crash, accidental damage to your bike, and malicious damage if the damage is caused by a sudden, unforeseen, specific incident that happens during the period of insurance and is entirely outside of your control.

  • If your bike is stolen, we will cover your bicycle on a replacement cost basis if it is stolen from your home or away from your home, provided you have complied with the security conditions.

  • We cover any upgrades or custom parts added to your bike. Simply list them and include their value in your bike's total value.

  • We will cover your bicycle when transported on a bicycle rack as long as it is secured to a properly fixed bike rack and locked through the bicycle frame, with an approved lock.

  • We will cover your bicycle if it gets stolen or damaged while you're traveling with it by airline, ship, train, or truck anywhere in the US.

  • If you've had an accident and are unable to ride your bike home, we'll reimburse you up to $75 of your transportation cost to get you to the nearest public transport station, bicycle repair shop or your home, whichever is nearer.

  • If you have had an accident with your bicycle, we will cover up to $1,000 out-of-pocket emergency medical expenses, like ambulance costs, x-rays or getting stitched up after a crash, provided you have a valid bicycle claim.

OPTIONAL COMPREHENSIVE EXTRAS

  • You can protect your bicycle while traveling outside the US for up to 90 days. Add worldwide coverage for worry-free travel and riding throughout your trip.

  • Add racing & event coverage to safeguard your bicycle against damage resulting from specific incidents such as crashes, impacts, or road hazards during your participation in races or events.

  • If you cover your bicycle within 60 days of purchasing it new, add lifetime new for old, and if a valid insurance claim is made, we'll replace your bicycle, item or part with a new item of the same make and model (or the nearest equivalent) with no depreciation applied.

  • You can cover your cycling accessories, provided they are damaged or stolen in the same covered loss as your bicycle. Cycling accessories include panniers, saddle bags, mudguards, and lights. You can also add your helmet, cycling kit and bike lock to your accessories.

  • You can cover additional wheelsets, for example, a pair of spare or racing wheels.

  • If you’ve selected racing & event coverage, we’ll reimburse your event entry fee up to $500 for any cycling race or event that you’ve entered but cannot compete in due to injuries you sustained in a covered loss to your bicycle.

  • If you’ve selected worldwide or racing & event coverage, we’ll reimburse you up to $300 to rent a bicycle if a covered loss occurs seven days or less before you participate in a cycling race or event.

Popular FAQ’s

  • Refer to our list of approved locks [here] to check if yours is included. If your lock is not listed, email us on hello@us.insurance.globalcyclingnetwork.com with details about your lock for our review.

  • Homeowners and renters insurance may cover your bike, but often come with limitations, such as higher deductibles and coverage for only a portion of your bike's value. Our insurance lets you customize your coverage, with benefits tailored to cycling, regardless of your bike type. Additionally, we cover damage or theft away from home and won't increase your premium when you make a claim.

  • Yes, we offer a 10% discount for any additional bicycles you add to your policy.

  • Yes, our bicycle insurance coverage includes your spouse, any children over 18 years old, or a partner you’ve lived with for two years or more, as long as they are listed on the policy as additional policyholders and permanently reside with you.

  • We cover Class 1 - 3 e-bikes, with 2 wheels and functional pedals, that comply with your state's laws regarding electric bicycles.

Class 1: Equipped with a motor that helps you move only while pedaling. Once you reach 20 miles per hour, you're on your own and all electric assistance stops.

Class 2: Equipped with a motor that if you engage the throttle, you will get moving without having to pedal yourself. But, once you reach 20 miles per hour, it is up to you to keep the electric bicycle moving without assistance.

‍Class 3: Equipped with a motor that helps you move only while pedaling. Once you reach a speed of 28 miles per hour, you're on your own and all electric assistance stops. This bicycle is also equipped with a speedometer.

For all of the above the maximum power output is 750 watts. Manufacturers and distributors of electric bicycles are required to apply a class identification label to each electric bicycle which comes in handy. We don't cover bicycles fitted with internal combustion engines or other sources of power assistance or self-made or homemade retrofitted e-bikes.

  • We know that getting caught up in a collision with a vehicle is every cyclist's worst nightmare, and we want to give you one less thing to worry about. Whether or not the driver is insured, your bicycle will be covered under our bicycle insurance and we'll either repair or replace your bike as soon as possible.

  • If you haven't made a claim, you can cancel your policy within 14 days of the start or renewal date. The premium paid for the policy will be refunded with no penalties. Even after the cancellation period, you can cancel your policy with no penalties charged.

This does not apply to New York

  • You have the option to pay for your policy either monthly or annually, depending on your preference.

  • List bicycles purchased new and less than two years old at the purchase price or the new recommended retail price, whichever is greater.

For bicycles older than two years, list it as its market value. Market value means the best-estimated price that a buyer would pay and a seller would accept for an item in an open and competitive market for a bicycle, custom part, or accessory of similar make, model, quality, material, condition, function, type and age. To calculate this, take the item's original recommended retail price and deduct 10% for every year or part thereof.
